Laurence, how was bibaloo born?
It was a big step to give up a promising managerial career in the industry in 2008 to launch a website selling French baby clothes in the UK. I am not sure my friends and family fully understood and supported my approach in the beginning, and the sacrifices I was about to make to create and expand Bibaloo. I never doubted that Bibaloo would grow quickly, by just selling what people wanted and needed: Quality baby and kids clothes at affordable prices, sourced from well-established and independent French designers, and excellent customer service. And it did!
Why French Fashion?
Dressing kids adorably is part of the French culture, almost like wine, cheese and the Baguette! (no, no, I am not exaggerating). Every city in France has dozens of designer baby clothes shops. I have literally grown up with those brands myself and knew what they had to offer. They all have a certain "je ne sais quoi" that will make your child or grandchild look a little bit different, colourful and special. These shops just didn't exist in the UK and I obviously realised that when I had my first boy in 2007.
How big is bibaloo today?
(*Laugh*). Well, it is never big enough I guess since we always want to expand our offer! And we do so. However we have made the decision to grow organically to preserve our independence and our flexibility to better adapt our focus and energy to our customer's needs and service but we still double our turnover every year. Our dedicated team has also significantly grown… we almost need to find new premises again. The time I was running the business from home is just a distant memory.
How do you measure success?
The high number of returning customers, the dedication and passion of our staff and the testimonials we receive on a very regular basis.
